    Michael Williams (b. 1978, Doylestown, Pennsylvania) negotiates the long history of painting by consistently questioning—and often undoing—its major components. Challenging himself with an ever-evolving set of formal problems, he produces images that reflect modern complexity and contradiction. Recent works have been made using a variety of different materials and tools, including oil paint, collage, and airbrushes; some have been composed on a computer using Photoshop and a digital drawing pad before being inkjet-printed onto canvas. In the execution of his images Williams twists together a balance of offhanded gesture and careful compositional rigor, making decisions that keep his paintings willfully misoriented. As art historian Richard Shiff notes, “[Williams’s] art is infectious in causing others to ponder the importance—or not—of anything. It’s a start-all-over-again art for a start-all-over-again life.”

    Michael Williams, Baron Williams of Baglan

    Michael Charles Williams, Baron Williams of Baglan (11 June 1949 – 23 April 2017) was a British diplomat and crossbenchlife peer.

    Williams attended Sandfields Comprehensive School, Baglan, in Port Talbot. He was later to use the village name of 'Baglan' in his title on entering the House of Lords as a Labour peer in 2010.

    He received bachelor's degree from University College London in 1971 and a master's degree in the Politics of Developing Studies from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), in 1973. He subsequently earned a doctorate in Politics, also from SOAS.[1] He then lectured in politics at the University of East Anglia from 1978 to 1980.

    Lord Williams was the United NationsSpecial Coordinator for Lebanon. He was appointed by United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon in August 2008.[2] Williams previously served as UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process and the Secretary-General's Special Adviser on the Situation in the Middle East.[3] Prior to that, he was the Director for the Asia and the Pacific Division in the Department of Political Affairs.
